Taken takes us through the journey of Mills (played by Liam Neeson) on a one-man rescue mission to save his 17-year old daughter, Kim, who has been kidnapped by an Albanian and auctioned off to an Arab sheik. Mills uses his CIA contacts to extract intelligence on the possible whereabouts of his daughter’s kidnapper and learns that he only has 96 hours to rescue her. Thus begins an action-fueled adventure that will give any parent their daily dose of nightmare fuel.
The film asks its audience to believe that Bryan’s violent actions in the pursuit of his daughter are more than just rampant barbarism, something akin to justice and vengeance. Although the plot of the movie is fairly predictable, Taken deserves credit for creating awareness on human trafficking, a subject that needs more press coverage.
2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Directed by James Cameron, Terminator 2: Judgment Day explores the relationship between humans and machines, and what could happen if artificial intelligence acquires ‘conscience’. In the original “The Terminator”, you’ll notice that the first terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger was sent from the future to kill Connor’s mother.
That mission failed, and so, two terminators travel back from the future: A good Terminator played by Schwarzenegger, who is tasked to protect Connor, and a bad one, played by Robert Patrick, whose mission is to kill him. To the audience’s horror, the liquid-metal android, the T-1000 is near-invincible and absolutely unrelenting in his singular goal to wipe out John Connor. The key element of what makes this highly predictable action flick so successful is the villain – he just keeps on coming no matter what.
When a few objects that can be manipulated and used as weapons in the future fall into the wrong hands, a CIA operative, known as the Protagonist, must save the world. Tenet is a science fiction action thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film follows a secret agent who learns to manipulate the flow of time to prevent an attack from the future that threatens to annihilate the present world. It stars John David Washington the son of legendary actor Denzel Washington.
4. The Raid
2011 Action/Martial Arts
After getting stuck inside a 15-storey safe house belonging to drug lord Tama, Rama and his team must use the little ammunition they have to take him down and survive the unofficial mission. The Raid is an inventive action film expertly paced and edited for maximum entertainment. The Raid is relentless, breathtaking in its sheer propulsive majesty. But it’s also shot through with moments of bleak poetry amid the carnage.
5. Die Hard
Die-hard is indeed recognized as one of the top-charting action moves, with loads of symbolization to what life is all about; Bruce Willis walk on the broken glass perfectly depicts that brick life throw’s our way. The story sets forth in a state-of-the-art skyscraper, which is attacked by the terrorists, who also made the inhabitants hostage. This movie is well-thought while the script filled with humor to the brim serves as the icing on the cake. In fact, the idea of setting the film around Christmas time adds a dash of festive galore to this action movie.
6. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
This one is truly a classic action piece of Hollywood set in 1936. The movie features archaeologist and gutsy adventurer Indiana Jones, whom the US government appoints to spot the Ark of the Covenant before Hitler’s Nazis find and acquire its magnificent powers. Even today, this film relishes the position of the top-rated movie with 5 Oscar wins, 37 other wins, and 24 total nominations under its name.
